This past sunday my husband and i took a trip to charlotte. We went to visit IKEA because, as i have said in a previous post, we are redecorating our apartment. after we finished shopping, his cousin (a Charlotte local) took us to a very eclectic part of town. it had this very 'old and rundown but that's why it's cool' feel to it. the NODA district is what he called it. it is home to some of the coolest bars i've ever been. here are a few photos of just one of them, called the common market. the cool thing about this place is that it is set up just like a convenience store. you walk in, and you think you're in a gas station. take a couple more steps and you think you are in a beer and wine store. to your left is a bar and to your right is a giant wine selection. straight ahead are about 15 coolers filled with domestic, imported, craft, organic, high gravity, or anything else you can think of, beers. it was so cool. after you make your selection, you go to the cashier and pay, just like a regular convenience store (except there is an optional tip jar). you show your ID, and the cashier pulls the bottle opener out of his back pocket and cracks your beer, which you take outside to their graffiti filled patio and enjoy. i'll definitely be back!
